Cheapo SG copy in M'Hogmanay finish.
This guitar was not manufactured by Gibson or any other American company but was crafted in Japan during the first part of the ‘70s.
The particularly striking translucent M'Hogmanay finish on the body shows the grain of the plywood to good effect and cleverly avoids matching the colour of the neck. This finish is not available in the current Gibson catalogue or anywhere else for that matter.
Has the suggestion of quality in the shape of the body and minor signs of genuine playability on the headstock but is otherwise a wooden hymn to rudimentary workshop skills. Bonus unique 'Signature' features include the hand-inlayed name on the headstock and hand-engraved name on the neckplate. See for yourself how spiffy it looks in the images here.
The only reason I haven't called this Stunning Guitar "mint" or "as new" is that it is comprehensively neither. Aside from the aforementioned refinish and 'Signature' features, it has small holes in the pickguard and between the control knobs where switches used to reside, a small crack in the pickguard near the neck pickup and a repositioned strap button on the neck. Except for all these hard-to-miss details it is in pristine condition and is exactly as it left the Cheapo factory.
The original genuinely fake humbucking pickups combined with the all-plywood construction combine to give this axe tone that goes from sparkling dishwasher clean all the way to .....er..... slightly louder clean. Crunchy, crackly tone is provided intermittently by the Kroniksound™ tone and volume potentiometers. A surprisingly amusing instrument to look at and to play with its slow, fat neck and effortful action.
Comes complete with its original Flimsy© Fitless™ hard (as marshmallow) case which is black and has no lining whatsoever. It does, however, feature the legendary CP Cases "This Way Up" sticker - surely a collector's item just by itself!
Has a sensible reserve to avoid me getting too upset at parting with this much-loved instrument so get bidding and grab yourself amusement value in spades for less than the price of a night out on the booze!
Seriously, folks, this guitar does actually play (hear it here) and was my main instrument for more years than I care to remember but if you are looking for a reasonably convincing fake of an SG that you can burn or smash up in a video, for example, then this is the axe for you!
